My name is Mauricio Flores Rios, and I am a chess Grandmaster from Chile. I started playing chess when I was 10 and in order to improve I trained mostly on my own. I gained most of my knowledge from chess books, as well as the analysis of my own games.
The chess accomplishments of which I am proud the most is winning the Montcada International Championship (Spain) in 2013, against a field of 20 GMs.
I am very interested in the study of chess strategy. I wrote the book Chess Structures in 2015 hoping to teach readers what I know, as well as to fill up what I considered a major gap in chess literature. Recently, I finished Chess Imbalances with a similar objective (to be released later in 2024).
My hope is that my books not only teach chess strategy within the right context, but also encourage others to follow this systematic study of the game, always keeping in mind that the pawn structure and material imbalance are the most important factors when studying a position.
Feel free to email me any questions you have.
Good luck Mauricio! You already has a faithfull follower of this blog 😉

Wow you are 24 and you wrote a book! And becoming 1st with 20gms in an open tournament! Keep it up! Btw I went through your game against Kanakaris in WYCC on a real chessboard just to get into the habit of the difficult task of following a chess game with its variations and sub-variations.Thanks for your inspiration! God bless.
